How to get rid of wet carpet smell in your basement?
1) Ensure that your carpet is dry.
The first method is ensuring that your carpet is free from humidity which is the primary cause of the mold and which are responsible for wet carpet smell. To achieve this you can use a dehumidifier or air conditioner to assist you in preventing a musty smell from developing or returning after cleaning it. Additionally, you can keep your fan running and windows open to allow free circulation of air in your house.
2) Use baking powder.
This is one of the simplest methods. You just sprinkle baking soda onto the carpet that has the wet smell. Baking soda will absorb the unpleasant odors and moisture from the carpet. Use a broom or sponge to gently spread the baking soda all over the carpet. Leave the baking powder on the carpet overnight and clean it the following day.
3) Use a vacuum cleaner.

5) Use vinegar.
Vinegar can be used to kill molds and mildew. This is because plain white vinegar is extremely acidic and this gives it an antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiseptic characters. Additionally, vinegar also helps in loosening and lifting other debris from your carpet. When making a cleaning solution, you should mix two cups or half a liter of warm water with a tablespoon of white vinegar and a teaspoon of baking soda. After thoroughly mixing them spray or sprinkle the mixture throughout the carpet and give it time to dry before using a vacuum cleaner to clean it.
6) Use hydrogen peroxide.
When using this method you should mix 3% hydrogen peroxide with a dye-free soap in the following ratio: mix 4 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of dye-free mild soap. Use about 1.5 liters of hot water to blend them together. You can use this mixture in your vacuum cleaner.
